Good Morning Everyone, Our theme for this month: “You are loved” Our Bible verse for today: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV) Our thought for today: “Trust Him even when you don’t understand.” Life can be hard. Sometimes things happen that we don’t understand and for which we’re not prepared. Often, we’re left feeling overwhelmed and unsure of what to do. It’s during times like that when strong faith in God and full reliance on Him becomes especially crucial. Many things in life surprise us, but nothing surprises God. And even if we feel unprepared and inadequate to deal with them, God is always prepared and more than adequate. Yesterday my wife and I received a phone call informing us that our daughter in San Diego has terminal cancer. She was taken to the emergency room the night before with unexplained pain in her abdomen. A series of tests quickly revealed cancer throughout her lower body including in her cervix, liver, and bones. Her kidneys are also failing. They tell us she doesn’t have long to live. This morning I will fly to California to bring Tracy home to Tennessee, but I have so many unanswered questions. Why are we losing her at only 49 years of age? She is already so sick, will she be able to handle the trip home? How long do we have left with her? Can we care for her in our home or does she need the professional care of a hospice center? (She will initially go to our local Hospice Home for further evaluation and stabilization). Those and so many other issues remain to be worked out and at this time, I honestly don’t know the answers to any of them. But I do know that God is good, and the He loves us deeply, and that none of this surprises Him. So we’re going to do exactly what Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us to do, trust Him, lean not on our own understanding, and know that in His way and in His time, He will lead us through this. That promise is true for us now in this situation, and it’s true for you too in your situations. Trust Him, follow Him, depend on Him, even when you don’t understand. God Bless, Pastor Jim |
