You have nothing to fear

Good morning, everyone,

Our theme for this month: “Sound doctrine, strong faith”

Our Bible verse for today: “For all those led by God’s Spirit are God’s sons. For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear: Instead, you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father!” Romans 8:14-15 (CSB)

Our thought for today: “You have nothing to fear”

My favorite evangelistic track of all time is Billy Graham’s “Steps to Peace with God”. It’s a small pamphlet which explains four brief steps a person can take to finally arrive at a place in life where they are at peace with God. No longer living in fear and doubt, but instead with deep peace and assurance.

What Paul has been teaching in Romans chapter eight is that if you have placed your faith in Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord, you have been adopted into God’s family. You are now His child not just His creation. He loves you deeply, you are at peace with Him, and you have nothing to fear.

There are many spiritual realities that become true for you as a child of God and one of them is living without fear. Your Father in heaven has assumed responsibility for your welfare and well-being. Matthew 7:11 tells us: “If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him?” And in Matthew 10:29-30: “Aren’t two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them falls to the ground without your Father’s consent. But even the hairs on your head have all been counted. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

Paul declares here in Romans that Christians are children of God within whom there should be no fear. There’s no reason for us to fear. We are favored children of the most High God. He is our loving Father in heaven. He watches over us, He has numbered the hairs on our head, He protects us, He loves to give us good gifts, and He has our well-being in mind at all times. So, we do not need to fear.

Paul goes on in this passage to describe the depths of the love relationship God wants us to enjoy with Him and we will continue to explore that tomorrow. For this morning, I encourage you to spend some extra time sitting quietly with your Father in heaven and simply enjoying the secure sense of being cared for by Him. You have nothing to fear.

God bless,
Pastor Jim
